The Golden Eagles was only one of two home school teams that participated in the National Christian Invitational High School Basketball Tournament in Erie, Pennsylvania from March 6-8. The NCIT invites academies and Christian schools from the Northeast and Midwest. Sixty teams participate in the three-day, all-day, event on five different courts. The Eagles came into the tournament seeded last but defeated the number one seeded team, Calvary Temple, from Washington, D.C. in a thrilling two pointer in the first round. The Eagles became the buzz of the tournament after knocking out Grand River Academy, a big and very physical team from Cleveland, OH by a score of 61-41. The championship game pitted the Eagles against last year’s national champion, Faith Christian Academy from Chicago. The Eagles led by only 1 point the end of the first quarter, at half-time, and at the end of the third quarter. But they jumped out to a twelve point lead mid-way through the fourth quarter and never looked back winning the championship 47-36. The Golden Eagles were led by local players Josiah Murray of Morristown (Jr. Center) and Michael Judy of Greenfield (Senior point guard). Brian Heman from Spring Lake (Jr. forward) and Kent Judy (Sophomore forward) came off the bench to contribute to the victories.
