One of the greatest ways to eliminate stress from your life is to take an account of how you are spending your time. One reason stress mounts and pressure builds so rapidly in our life is because we feel like there is more to be accomplished in our day than time allows.
Interestingly, if you look at your day through a microscope looking for areas where time is leaking through the cracks, you might be very surprised at what you find.
One way to go about this is by actually mapping out your day and allocating various time slots to accomplish daily priorities in home and business life, family focus, personal time for spiritual growth and your own enjoyment, and other key areas in your life.
The best way to do this is to write down everything you want to get done in your daily life. Once you have done this, designate the activity to a particular time slot, simultaneously streamlining all events with the best possible time usage in mind.
Goals - The best place to start is by setting goals. Ask yourself what is most important in your life. What areas in your life are suffering from a lack of your attention? Are you putting God first? Are the needs of your family being met adequately, or better yet, excellently? Are you doing a good job in your work? Do you spend some time for your personal enjoyment?
Zone - One of the ways to simplify this process is to zone your day into segments focusing on family time, work related activities and personal time. For instance, if you like to read or exercise you may want to allow yourself an extra half an hour in the mornings of personal preparation time before you start your work day. If you will plug this into a time slot and are determined to stick to your Time Budget, you will be more likely to follow through and actually invest that valuable time in yourself by doing what you deem is important for your personal well being or growth.
Prioritize - Prioritizing is extremely important when planning your day. Time is one of our most valuable commodities. When you discipline yourself to prioritize activities because there are only so many hours in the day, you quickly discern what is really important to you. This is a good time to prune out time-consuming activities that are not helping you achieve the desired overall goals for your life.
For instance, if one of your goals is to keep your family first before your career, and upon examining your Time Budget you find you have no time available for your loved ones because it is all being consumed by business or other activities, that alerts you to the fact that it is time to start delegating or eliminating the activities that are stealing time from your family objectives.
Careful examination of time expenditures, overall goals, and priorities can result in a daily life with everything done and time left over when implemented by way of a Time Budget.
