ADULT LIBRARY PROGRAMS Madden Xbox Tournament Tackle a larger-than-life NFL quarterback without the piercing pain. The Hancock County Public Library in Greenfield is hosting a John Madden NFL video game tournament, eight days before the Super Bowl on Saturday, January 26, from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. GameStop in Greenfield is lending Xbox consoles to the library for a 32-team, double elimination tournament with 4-minute quarters. The games will be projected on the library’s screens, ranging from 72 to 150 inches for maximum virtual reality. The library has energy snacks, and players can break for lunch on their own between games in this all-day contest that ends with trophies and prizes. Players in grade six through adult are eligible to register for the 64 slots while they last. Call 462-5141, ext. 211. This free event is an ideal venue for fathers and sons and all football fans. Two for One Genealogy Learn how to search two genealogy databases in a single class. Reference Librarians Jackie Osting and Elizabeth Clemons will hold an evening session for beginners on Wednesday, January 30, from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m., at the Hancock County Public Library in Greenfield. Both resources hold handwritten U.S. Federal Census pages from 1790 to 1930, plus millions of out-of-print historical books and records. Ask Computer Questions Talk to computer advisor Jan Frisinger aboard the Hancock County Public Library’s Techmobile. Reserve a private tutoring session at most stops, with the exception of schools or daycare centers. Frisinger will answer questions about hardware or Microsoft or Apple software. Teen Jeopardy & Pizza Teens will take the Jeopardy challenge at the Hancock County Public Library in Greenfield on Thursday, January 31, from 4:00 to 5:30 p.m. After fueling up on free pizza, contestants in grade six to age 19 can see how much trivia they’ve stored against the competition. Yarn-Craft for Kids Kids in grades 4-8, knit or crochet a warm winter scarf at the Hancock County Public Library in Greenfield. The choice is yours on Thursday, January 24, from 3:45 to 4:45 p.m. To knit, bring a short, #10 pair of needles; or to crochet, bring a size “G” hook. Instructors at the library will provide practice yarn for the first session. For the second session, students bring enough yarn for a scarf they make grow longer every Thursday through February 28.
