Usually when someone goes to the doctor, it is not because he/she is feeling great and just needs the doctor to confirm his/her healthy condition.  No,  most of the time the person is in pain, is run down or shows some other signs of sickness.  Just as headaches, dizziness, insomnia, and lack of appetite are telltale signs of sickness, there are some sure signs that can confirm that we are on the right road to good health. We need a paradigm shift in our thinking when it comes to our health and health care in general.  Mostly, we think we are healthy if we are not hurting or if we do not have any serious signs of sicknesses.  However, by the time we go to the doctor with our symptoms, the health problem has been working in our bodies for some time.  Let’s not wait for the bad signs of disease to show up, instead, let’s pay more attention to the signs of good health.  And, of course with those signs, continue to do the good habits that produced them.Following is a list of positive signs of good health.  If you and others can see these signs, then you can have confidence that you are a healthy person living a healthy lifestyle. §          medication free - It goes without saying that healthy people do not need to take medications.  The drug companies’ advertisements that are prevalent in our daily lives suggest that taking medication is a perfectly normal and natural way of living.  I say it is not normal.  Remember drug companies are businesses and businesses must be profitable to be viable.  People that take charge of their health by proper diet, exercise and lifestyle do not rely on drugs to make them healthy.  Hippocrates, the father of medicine (460-357 BC), said, “Let food be your medicine and medicine your food. “§          the ability to do push ups – A headline in the International Herald Tribune on Wednesday, March 12, 2008 read, The Simple Push Up: A Sign of Good Health.  The article started out, “as a symbol of health and wellness, nothing surpasses the simple push up.”   The push up is a great barometer of fitness.  It tests the whole body, engaging muscle groups in the arms, chest, abdomen, hips and legs.  Everyone can benefit from doing pushups including women, children and older persons.  For older people, the ability to do them more than once with proper form is an important indicator of the capacity to withstand the rigors of aging.  Natural aging causes nerves to die off and muscles to weaken.  However, regular exercise like push ups enlarges muscle fibers and can stave off the decline by increasing the strength of the muscle you have left.  Based on national averages, a 40 year old woman should be able to do 16 push ups and a man of the same age should be able to do 27.  By the age of 60, those numbers drop to six for women and 17 for men.§          clear skin – One of the most obvious and revealing signs of good health is seen on your face.  If your face is rosy, clear, moist and without dark circles under your eyes, then you are doing something healthy.  A healthy diet and lifestyle will be reflected on your face.  In the Bible, the first chapter of Daniel reveals that the faces of Daniel and three other Hebrew youths were noticeably healthier looking after just 10 days of eating vegetables and drinking water than the other children who ate a rich diet of the king’s choice food.§          pain free – Pain is not a natural condition of getting older.  Pain is a warning sign that something is wrong in the body.  By living a healthy lifestyle, you can live totally free from headaches, stomachaches, backaches, joint aches, muscle aches and ALL ACHES!§          high energy – High energy from proper nutrition is so much better than the temporary jolt from caffeine in coffee, pop and energy drinks.§          proper digestion –Improper digestion results in more toxins in the body and triggers other ailments.  Heartburn and reflux, indigestion, constipation and every other digestion problem can be solved easily.  Usually this occurs in a few days by changing to a health promoting diet.§          appropriate weight – When you eat a healthy plant-based diet consisting mostly of living foods and whole natural foods and exercise regularly, your weight will automatically become an appropriate weight.§          quality sleep – Insomnia is one of the first signs of sickness.  Sleep experts say that most adults need between seven to nine hours of sleep each night for optimum performance and safety.  A good night sleep repairs and rejuvenates your body.  It is vital for the immune system and your overall health.  When you are healthy, you sleep well.   §          positive attitude – A positive attitude creates healing energy in your body.  People with positive attitudes project a level of joy and happiness and often influences those with whom they interact.  A person with a positive attitude does not talk sickness, expect sickness or tolerate sickness.  They do positive things and expect positive health.
