“Let food be your medicine and medicine be your food.” Those words of wisdom were written centuries ago by Hippocrates, the father of medicine. Nature has given us some foods that have healing qualities in them; foods that will help prevent cancer and other diseases. These foods will also help us to maintain good health.
I will list ten of these foods along with some of their healing benefits.
Apple There is truth in the phrase, "an apple a day keeps the doctor away." Apples are a good source of pectin, which forms a gel to remove toxins from the intestines. The potassium and phosphorous in apples help to flush the kidneys and control digestive upsets. And, the natural sugar in this fruit produces an acid that stimulates saliva flow and digestion. Apples are a good source of fiber and will help to lower cholesterol. Other conditions that are helped by apples are arthritis, constipation, gout, indigestion, kidney disorders, liver disorders and rheumatism.
The banana has a high potassium content that benefits the heart and muscular system. Other conditions helped by the banana are ulcers, diarrhea, hemorrhoids and intestinal disturbances.
The mineral make-up of beets contributes directly to the well being of the liver and gall bladder in addition to building up blood corpuscles and cells. They also stimulate the activity of the lymph glands, emulsify bile and flush both the kidney and the bladder. Conditions that beets help are anemia, bladder disorders, cancer, circulatory weakness, eye fatigue, heart disease, high blood pressure, jaundice, kidney disorders, liver disorders, low blood pressure, lymph circulation, menstrual problems, menopause, and skin disorders.
This is an excellent source of beta carotene, vitamin C and the trace mineral, selenium - which is good for fighting cancer and heart disease. Cabbage improves conditions of arthritis, slows the aging process by giving beautiful skin and increases male potency.
Carrots are one of the healthiest foods on planet earth. They are rich in beta carotene that converts into vitamin A in the body. Carrots are used in treatment of all forms of cancer. One of the most beneficial things that you can do is drink fresh - not bottled or processed - carrot juice on a daily basis. Arthritis, asthma, bone problems, cataracts, diabetes, eye disorders, and many skin disorders can be helped by the consumption of carrots.
Ginger Ginger causes superficial blood vessels to dilute so at first you perspire, and then you feel cool. This makes ginger good to ingest if you are running a fever. It also aids in healing vocal cords if you have laryngitis. Ginger also acts as an expectorant to help in ridding sinus cavities of mucus and lungs of phlegm.
You will find a rich source of bioflavonoid in the lemon. It plays a major role in eliminating toxins. Lemon juice is excellent as a blood purifier. Drink the juice of one lemon in a cup of water to help detoxify the system and to balance the pH in the colon. Also, lemon juice with a little extra virgin olive oil makes a healthy salad dressing.
The orange protects you from colds, flu, bruising, heart disease and strokes because it is a perfect blend of nutrients when it is consumed pure. The nutrients strengthen your blood vessels and capillaries and give you a better chance of living a long and healthy life.
Parsley is a very potent food that is extremely high in nutrients. "A little goes a long way" with parsley. Its high chlorophyll helps to metabolize oxygen in the blood steam, purify it and at the same time act as a cleanser for the kidneys, liver and urinary tract. Parsley stimulates digestive enzymes to do their job and stimulates the peristaltic wave in the intestine and moves the bowels. It is more than a garnish; it will freshen your breath. So, eat it as often as you can.
This food is n amazingly potent cleanser and builder of the body. These properties stimulate and tone the liver, gall bladder, blood and lymph circulation and the large intestine. Spinach is a very good source of chlorophyll. Its juice is strengthening to the teeth and gums because it has a high concentrate of alkaline minerals. Spinach benefits anemia, cancer, circulator weakness, colitis, constipation, diabetes, eye disorders, kidney disorders, liver disorders, nervous diseases, pyorrhea, skin disorders, poor digestion, thyroid gland regulation, heart disease, high blood pressure, infections and ulcers.
